Meet Dr. Vann

Originally from the Philippines, Dr. Vann completed her undergraduate studies and earned her first dental degree at Centro Escolar University, College of Dentistry in the Philippines in 1978. She practiced general dentistry for six years in the Philippines. She attended Georgetown University School of Dentistry and graduated in 1988. She has been practicing in Northern Virginia ever since.
Dr. Vann is a member of national and local dental associations, including the Northern Virginia Dental Society,  The American Dental Association, The Virginia Dental Association, The International Association of Orthodontists, the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health , and the Schuster Center for Professional Development.
Dr. Vann has been recognized as a Top Dentist for Excellence in General Dentistry by Virginia Living Magazine since 2010. She was also named America’s Best Dentist in 2013 and 2014 by Consumer’s Research Council of America, Top Dentist in July/August 2006 by Health & Beauty Magazine, and Top Dentist in Northern Virginia in 2005 by Northern Virginia Living Magazine.

What Makes Me Different?

It is very important for me to share my philosophy of dentistry with my patients. My practice is relationship-based, meaning that my patients and I, not any insurance company, make decisions on what procedures are best for them. I am happy to provide documentation for my patients so that they can submit them for an insurance claim; however, it is important for my patients to understand that many procedures are not covered by insurance. It doesn’t mean that they are not necessary; it just means they are not covered. For this reason, I do not subscribe to any insurance plan and choose not to play the insurance game.

My practice and my patients are my passions. As such, it is my mission to provide you not only with professional dental service but also with a warm, welcoming environment. I promise to work together with you in developing a plan that will benefit both your dental health and your overall health. I also promise to stay dedicated in keeping up on the most current dental procedures in order to ensure that you’re getting the best dental treatment available.

Did you know that it is possible to know if you have the most deadly bacteria in your mouth? With the use of a Phase Contrast Video Microscope, Dr. Vann is able to view the different types of bacteria present in your mouth. When you come in for your teeth cleaning, Dr. Vann will take a pain-free plaque sample from under your gums and put it on a slide to view on the microscope. Dr. Vann will discuss with you the findings and how you can eliminate them. There are certain bacteria linked to heart disease and stroke, specifically spirochetes, gliding rods, amoeba, and trichomonad. If Dr. Vann discovers these bacteria are present in your mouth, then she would recommend a home-care regiment specifically designed for the patient.  Spirochetes  are not easy to get rid of and can be passed along from person to person. The Relationship of Jaw Misalignment and Cranial Motion

For many years osteopathic literature has reported the existence of a rhythmic movement of the skull. This movement, occurring at rate of 8-12 times per minute persists throughout life. It is considered to be a vital life force required for the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid.  Cranial movement is constant, but can be restricted by the occurrence of various patterns of jaw misalignment. There are seven types of jaw misalignment. Orthodontic diagnosis is currently centered in the Angle Classification system supplemented by soft tissue behavior analysis, temporomandibular joint evaluation and especially by use of the side view skull x-ray.  By adding the cranial pattern description as a diagnostic method the identification and understanding of the distorted bite fit becomes much more refined and provides clarity in recognizing the underlying cause of the distorted bite fit.
